Museo Histórico y Antropológico Mauricio Van de Maele : Historical and Anthropologic Museum Maurice van de Maele

This museum was declared in 1981.  Inside one can learn of the multicultural society that was founded in the city of Valdivia, the Mapuches, and the strong German influence on the city.

Tuesday – Sunday: 10 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 6 pm

January – February: Monday – Sunday: 10 am – 8 pm

Museo de la Exploración Rudolph Amandus Phillippi : Exploration Museum

Built in 1914, this museum was taken apart in 80,000 pieces to then be moved 3 kms. to where it is currently located. Inside you will find patrimonial collections of Phillippi, and learn about the natural history in the area.

January – February: Monday – Sunday: 10 am – 8 pm

Museo de Arte Contemporáneo : Museum of Contemporary Art

Located at the ex-brewery Anwandter, and near the Museo de la Exploración and Museo Histórico y Antropológico, this museum contains local, regional, national and international expositions. It has a wide array of art including paintings, graphics, sculptures, video art, and multimedia.

Museo Naval Submarino O’Brien : Museum O’Brien Naval Submarine

This museum is built inside of the O’Brien submarine, submerge into each of its sections and learn about the life of the crew members under sea.  *visiting this museum is ranked as #5 of 12 attractions on Tripadvisor.

Carpa de La Ciencia CECs : Science Tent CECs

Located on Paseo Libertad, this cultural space many times has expositions of varying themes.  It belongs to the Centro de Estudios Científicos del Sur (Center of Scientific Studies of the South) with an objective to open spaces for developing the region’s culture.

Schedule: January – December

The schedules of the programs are in accordance with the expositions.

Museo de La Catedral : Museum of the Cathedral

In this museum, located inside Valdivia’s cathedral, you will find paintings of Juan Francisco Echenique Celis, as well as artistic exhibitions that summarize the evangelization of Valdivia beginning in XVI.

Centro Cultural El Austral : El Austral Cultural Center

This center has three large rooms used for all sorts of expositions, concerts, and conferences. It also has an archive of over 3000 patrimonial photographs, decorative furniture, and objects that one can view.

Casa Luis Oyarzun : Luis Oyarzun Home

This house, which now belongs to the Austral de Chile University, was built in 1888.  Inside one can view the art and science expositions that are displayed periodically. During the summertime, you can visit the Feria de Antigüedades (Antique fair) “El Torreon” every Sunday from 11 am – 2 pm.

Castillo San Sebastian de la Cruz de Corral : San Sebastian de la Cruz de Corral Castle

Learn about pirates, corsairs, and soldiers in this famous castle located on the island of Corral.  It was constructed in 1645, converted into a fort in 1676, and declared as a national monument in 1950.  During the summertime you can enjoy the historic reanimation that relates the taking of the fort from the patriots under the command of Lord Thomas Alexander Cochrane.

Museo de la Cerveza : Museum of the Beer

This museum is located inside of the Kuntsmann Brewery which can also be toured.  It narrates the history and tradition about the beer’s process of elaboration, essentially in Valdivia where the German colonists prepared this now famous drink.
